Follow the following steps

Go to the desired picture or url. Right click on picture and select properties or copy url address. For example:
I want to create a link to my new photo album on my multiply website using the title thumbnail of that album, which is this one:

I would go to my photo album and locate the desired thumbnail. I right click the image and copy the property of the thumbnail as follows:http://images.toichatpet.multiply.com/image/25/photos/21/1200x120/8/cover-small.jpg?et=bjPied8ez8JMbTYKHdmnhQ&nmid=94815927

Note that the above location (property of the image)  is just the picture itself which will be used as a thumbnail (button) for users to click on to be directed to the page I want them to visit. So now I have to go to "Edit HTML" to edit the "Hyper Link" codes to:

• indicate that the above link is a picture and
• to make the link open in new window.(target="_blank")

The syntax of the hyperlink looks like this:

Hello. Stefan here, writing you from Multiply HQ in Jakarta, Indonesia.

As most of you are probably aware, Multiply's mission has evolved over the past year and a half to become the biggest and most beloved ecommerce marketplace in two very exciting markets, Indonesia and the Philippines. As our focus has shifted, we have reviewed all of our operations, and made some decisions that will affect everyone here.

• From December 1st, we will unfortunately no longer be able to support Multiply in its current form - notably we will be removing the social networking and content sharing part of Multiply (photos, videos, blogs, social messaging, etc.). We have decided to discontinue providing and hosting these services, as we have concluded that other Internet sites who are committed to social networking services will do a better job serving you than we can.
• For our existing users of social networking features, we will be providing easy ways for you to either download your stuff (photos, blogs, content, etc), or migrate it to other online services. We'll announce the precise details shortly. It will be your choice whether to download, migrate or just let your content lapse (and get deleted).
• For our existing ecommerce users (both buyers and sellers) in Indonesia and the Philippines, there will be no action required.
• Regarding any existing Multiply Premium subscriptions we will refund any unused balance, and apologize for any inconvenience this will cause. Please contact customer service to request a refund. Note that this is for Multiply Premium, not the ecommerce related Multiply Trust product.

I am aware of how disruptive this news may be, and understand the disappointment that it may cause. Ultimately this was a business decision, critical to our to success moving forward. Instead, we are excited to pursue our own mission to give the 350 million consumers in Indonesia and the Philippines a great way to buy and sell items online. Our singular focus now is for Multiply to retain its status as a vibrant e-commerce destination in Southeast Asia in the years ahead.

I suspect that many of you will not like this news, and am sorry to have to deliver it now. I hope that you will be able to understand the reasons for our decision and thank you for being a part of the Multiply community over the past eight years.

เมื่อวานเป็นวันหยุดระลึกถึงวันเกิดประธานาธิบดีจอร์จ วอร์ชิงตัน สรุปง่ายๆ แต่ที่จริงๆ มันงงๆ เพราะบางที่ก็ถือว่าเป็นการฉลองประธานาธิบดีเด่นๆ คนอื่นอย่างอับบราฮัม ลินคอน ด้วย และตกลงก็ไม่รู้ว่่าเป็นวันหยุดรัฐ หรือวันหยุดแห่งชาติ ตัวรัฐบาลเองก็ไม่รู้ คนก็ไม่รู้ใหญ่ รู้แต่ว่า เป็นวันจันทร์ที่สามในเดือนกุมภาพันธ์ แล้วร้านรวงก็มีการลดราคากระหน่ำอีกแล้ว หลังจากวันวาเลนไทน์ บังเอิญเราไม่เป็นขาช้อป ก็ไปถ่ายรูปดีกว่า

Yesterday was Presidents' Day (or President's Day?) in the United States.  If you are like me and a lot of people, you'd always wonder every year -- what is it, again? Apart from a big day for retail sale that is nudged between Valentine's Day and Mardi Gras / Easter, what do we exactly observing?

 Having to satisfy my curiosity, I went to this U.S. embassy's website and got this interesting facts (well -- as we know, "facts" are also a relative term^^)...

"According to the federal government, the holiday observed on the third Monday in February is officially Washington's Birthday. But many Americans believe that this holiday is now called "Presidents' Day," in honor of both Presidents Washington and Lincoln, whose birthdays are Feb. 22 and Feb. 12, respectively.

In 1968, Congress passed the Monday Holidays Act, which moved the official observance of Washington's birthday from Feb. 22 to the third Monday in February. Some reformers had wanted to change the name of the holiday as well, to Presidents' Day, in honor of both Lincoln and Washington, but that proposal was rejected by Congress, and the holiday remained officially Washington's Birthday.

But in 1971, when the Act went into effect, President Nixon proclaimed the holiday as Presidents' Day, to commemorate all past presidents, not just Lincoln and Washington. This idea was never intended or authorized by Congress; nevertheless, it gained a strong hold on the public consciousness.

Although some states do celebrate Presidents' Day as a state holiday, it has never been recognized at the federal level. On the national level, the third Monday of February is the official observance of Washington's Birthday. The misconceptions and confusions surrounding this holiday are explained in a two part article titled "By George, IT IS Washington's Birthday!" in Prologue, Winter 2004, a publication of the National Archives and Records Administration." 

So in other words, it is a mess, if you ask me -- just like this picture that I ventured to photograph right on the day.

It is Columbus looking out to the horizon symbolizing the spirit of adventure and discovery with the U.S. Flag on one side signifying how far the nation has come from his time.  Yet, he sees Alcatraz prison in plain view.  To me it perfectly portrays the state of being of world societies that, despite widespread democratic ideology, are still plagued with oppressions or imprisonment of minorities of all sorts -- sexual, age, creed, color, political and so on.

How to install new fonts

Installing fonts is quick and simple. Once fonts are installed, they are available to yours programs.

The font packages you download from the www.ffonts.net is in compressed .zip files to reduce file size and make downloading faster.
If you have downloaded a font that is saved in .zip format, you can "unzip" it by double-clicking the icon for the font and following the instructions on the screen.

INSTALLING MORE THAN 1000 FONTS ONTO YOUR COMPUTER CAN CAUSE A REDUCTION IN SPEED.
WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU LIMIT YOURSELF TO A NUMBER LESS THAN 1000 (400-500).

How to install a font under Windows? Download Font

          Click on the "Download" button, save the font file on your hard disk.

          Under Windows Vista : Select the font files (.ttf, .otf or .fon) then Right-click > Install

          Under any version of Windows : Place the font files (.ttf, .otf or .fon) into the Fonts folder, usually C:\Windows\Fonts or C:\WINNT\Fonts
          (can be reached as well by the Start Menu > Control Panel > Appearance and Themes > Fonts).

          Tip : if you punctually need a font, you don't need to install it. Just double-click on the .ttf file, and while the preview window is opened you can use it in most of the programs you'll launch (apart from a few exceptions like OpenOffice).

          Click on the "Download" button, save the font file on your hard disk.

          Under Mac OS X 10.3 or above (including the FontBook) : Double-click the font file > "Install font" button at the bottom of the preview.

          Under any version of Mac OS X : Put the files into /Library/Fonts (for all users) or into /Users/Your_username/Library/Fonts (for you only).

          Under Mac OS 9 or earlier : Download the font files (.ttf or .otf),Then drag the fonts suitcases into the System folder. The system will propose you to add them to the Fonts folder.

          Click on the "Download" button, save the font file on your hard disk.

          Copy the font files (.ttf or .otf) to fonts:/// in the File manager.


Notes

    * To select more than one font to add, in step 6, hold down the CTRL key, and then click each of the fonts you want to add.
    * You can also drag OpenType, TrueType, Type 1, and raster fonts from another location to add them to the Fonts folder. This works only if the font is not already in the Fonts folder.
    * To add fonts from a network drive without using disk space on your computer, clear the Copy fonts to Fonts folder check box in the Add Fonts dialog box. This is available only when you install OpenType, TrueType, or raster fonts using the Install New Font option on the File menu.

The severity of any calamity is relative to how close it hits home.  Walt Disney said, "You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you." -- Well, I sure hope so.

Can somebody tell me which piece to pick up first, though? :(.

เรื่อง 'ม้า ม้า'

เมื่อคืนได้ดูสารคดีเรื่องนี้แล้วทึ่งมากๆ ... พอจะรู้มานานแล้วเรื่องว่าม้าฉลาดมาก แต่ก็ไม่นึกว่าความสัมพันธ์ของม้ากับคนจะพิเศษขนาดนี้

พอดูถึงตอนที่คุณลุงคนนึงสอนผู้ดำเนินรายการเรื่องการผูกใจม้าแล้วก็เลยนึกถึงรูปนี้ที่ถ่ายไว้ตั้งแต่เดือนเมษาฯ 




เจ้าม้าขาวตัวนี้มันอยู่ที่ฟาร์มใกล้ๆ บ้าน  วันนึงขับรถผ่านไป เหลือบเห็นมันกำลังแลบลิ้นล้วงกินหญ้าอยู่ที่ริมรั้วข้างถนน ...แหม เราก็รีบจอดรถปรู้ด กระโดดปุ วิ่งไปจะถ่ายรูปมัน -- พอไปถึง อ้าวว มันแจ้นไปอยู่นู่นนน แถมยืนหันก้นให้เราทำไม่รู้ไม่ชี้นะ (แถมหันข้างที่มอมแมมมากๆ ให้เราอีกตะหาก ช่วงนั้นฝนยังตกอยู่) ... เราก็ ว้า ! อดถ่ายมันใกล้ๆ เลย ก็เลยเดินหันหลังกลับจะเดินไปที่รถ ... แต่ยังทันเห็นทางหางตาว่า เจ้าม้าแอบหันมามองนะ ...พอหันกลับไป มันก็ทำไม่รู้ไม่ชี้ต่อ ... แต่ก็ยังจำมาถึงวันนี้ว่า แหม เจ้านี่มันตอแหลน่าดู หรือไม่งั้นเราก็ตาฝาด

จนกระทั่งได้มาดูสารคดีเรื่องนี้ โดยเฉพาะตอนที่คนจะเป็นเ่พื่อนกับม้าน่ะ คล้ายๆ กับ Horse Whisperer นะ แต่อันนี้เค้าเรียก Join Up  เค้าบอก ม้าเป็นสัตว์ขี้ตื่น แต่ก็ใจกล้าถ้าหากไว้ใจคนแล้ว เวลาที่คุยกับม้า ตอนแรกให้วิ่งไล่ต้อนมันก่อน ซักพัก ก็ให้ทำเสียงกลั๊กๆๆๆๆ ขณะที่ยกแขนขึ้นไปในอากาศ วิ่งไล่มัน เสร็จแล้วให้หยุด แต่ต้องจ้องตาม้าตลอดนะ แล้วก็ให้เดินหนีมัน แต่ให้หันกลับมาทันควัน แล้วเดินย่างสามขุมเข้าไปหาม้า เท่านั้นแหละ ม้าหันมาเดินตามเค้าต้อยๆๆ เลยอ่ะ ไม่ต้องจูง ไม่ต้องมีบังเหียนอะไรทั้งสิ้น -- คนสอนบอกว่านี่แหละเป็นวิธีที่ม้าสื่อสารเวลาหาเพื่อน หรือเวลาสั่งสอนม้าเด็กๆ

ตั้งแต่คนคิดค้นรถราพาหนะต่างๆขึ้น ม้าก็ด้อยความสำคัญลงไปมาก ทั้งๆ ที่สมัยก่อน การที่คนจับม้าป่ามาเป็นสัตว์เลี้ยงนั้นเป็นการพัฒนาคุณภาพชีวิตและเพิ่มความสามารถในการเดินทางไกลให้กับมนุษย์และถือว่าเป็นการพลิกผันโฉมหน้าสังคมอย่างยิ่งยวดมาก่อน

ดูแล้ว รู้สึกมีความสุขมากๆเลยค่ะ

Just came across his name and looked him up on wikipedia.  Learned that he's an Italian-American contemporary artist who's influenced by thinkers as diverse as Gregory Bateson, William Blake, Allen Ginsberg, and J Krishnamurt.  I like this writeup about him but pair it with my Warhol-esqe rendition of my coffee cup here (Aside - I'm fascinated by coffee cups and one of these days I'd make a collection of it.).

2011 World Series - First Game 7 in 9 Years

Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinal -- Drama continues after miraculous game last night - Game 6 in St. Louis.

Whether or not you're are a baseball fan, you've got to love the drama and the display of miraculous human ability to PERSEVERE and to NEVER GIVE UP even when all the odds are against you and possibility of victory is bleak... The unfolded drama epitomized Yogi Berra's famous quote: "It ain't over till it's over!!!."

Last night, in the bottom of the 9th inning, Rangers were leading 7-5 and the long-awaited World Series Championship was just 1 strike away!!!! ...

Then this local kid David Freese hit a deep drive to the right field -- and hampered the Rangers' dream and enabled the Cardinals to stay alive.  The game went to extra innings -- and I could not believe my eyes when it was David Freese who hit a walk-off home run in the 11th inning.

THIS GOT TO BE ONE OF THE BIGGEST COMEBACK OF WORLD SERIES HISTORY.  WELL, WHAT CAN I SAY -- I JUST LOVE STORIES OF UNDERDOGS AND UNLIKELY HEROES.

As the camera panned around the stadium, the drama also unfolded in the the losers as well -- especially that played in the face of Nolan Ryan's (one of the greatest pitchers of all times and now Rangers owner).

This is also another great story of this year's game.  Josh Hamilton made a comeback after a long battle with addiction.  He hit his first post-season home run last night.

Another great story of the game is Nelson Cruz -- with his performance and great play.

On October 27, 2011, Cruz hit a solo home run to put the Texas Rangers up 6 to 4 against the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 6 of the 2011 World Series.  The home run allowed Cruz to tie the record for most postseason home runs in a season at 8; he shares the achievement with Carlos Beltran and Barry Bonds.

Whatever the outcome of Game 7 -- It will be another page in the history of baseball.

บางคนเรียกมันว่า “โชคชะตา” บ้างก็ว่า “ความบังเอิญ”

มันแปลกดีนะ เคยเป็นมั้ย เวลาเรานึกอะไร เห็นหรือรู้คำหรือเรื่องใหม่ๆ ที่ไม่รู้จัก หรือคุยกับใครเรื่องใดเรื่องนึง แล้วจู่ๆ ก็มีอันคอยจะให้เห็นเรื่องๆ นั้น หรือคำๆ นั้นขึ้นมาบ่อยๆ ทีเดียว สองสามวันนี้คุยเรื่อง “หน้าคน” ก็พาให้เห็นอะไรต่อมิอะไรที่เกี่ยวกับหน้าไปหมด

หาอะไรอ่านไปมาเลยพบว่าปรากฏการณ์แบบนี้มีชื่อเรียกด้วยนะ เออ (ไม่น่าเชื่อ และดีใจสุดๆ ที่ได้อ่าน เพราะตัวเองเป็นบ่อยมากกก)

Have you ever had this experience where you just heard, seen, or thought about some words, phrases, concept and then all of a sudden, those words, phrases or concepts just pop up everywhere right afterwards?  I experience that a lot -- so much so that it feels more than a mere coincidence and most often I merely think of that experience a a "hunch".  But apparently, this phenomenon has a name. Ta da!!! Weird, ha?

According to Alan Bellows of www.damninteresting.com, the phenomenon is called The Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon.  And here's his explanation:

"And you may have heard about it before. In fact, you probably learned about it for the first time very recently. If not, then you just might hear about it again very soon. Baader-Meinhof is the phenomenon where one happens upon some obscure piece of information– often an unfamiliar word or name– and soon afterwards encounters the same subject again, often repeatedly.

Anytime the phrase “That’s so weird, I just heard about that the other day” would be appropriate, the utterer is hip-deep in Baader-Meinhof.Most people seem to have experienced the phenomenon at least a few times in their lives, and many people encounter it with such regularity that they anticipate it upon the introduction of new information. But what is the underlying cause? Is there some hidden meaning behind Baader-Meinhof events?The phenomenon bears some similarity to synchronicity, which is the experience of having a highly meaningful coincidence… such as having someone telephone you while you are thinking about them.

Both phenomena invoke a feeling of mild surprise, and cause one to ponder the odds of such an intersection. Both smack of destiny, as though the events were supposed to occur in just that arrangement… as though we’re witnessing yet another domino tip over in a chain of dominoes beyond our reckoning.

Despite science’s cries that a world as complex as ours invites frequent coincidences, observation tells us that such an explanation is inadequate. Observation shows us that Baader-Meinhof strikes with blurring accuracy, and too frequently to be explained away so easily. But over the centuries, observation has also shown us that observation itself is highly flawed, and not to be trusted. The reason for this is our brains’ prejudice towards patterns.

Our brains are fantastic pattern recognition engines, a characteristic which is highly useful for learning, but it does cause the brain to lend excessive importance to unremarkable events. Considering how many words, names, and ideas a person is exposed to in any given day, it is unsurprising that we sometimes encounter the same information again within a short time. When that occasional intersection occurs, the brain promotes the information because the two instances make up the beginnings of a sequence.

What we fail to notice is the hundreds or thousands of pieces of information which aren’t repeated, because they do not conform to an interesting pattern. This tendency to ignore the “uninteresting” data is an example of selective attention.In point of fact, coincidences themselves are usually just an artifact of perception. We humans tend to underestimate the probability of coinciding events, so our expectations are at odds with reality. And non-coincidental events do not grab our attention with anywhere near the same intensity, because coincidences are patterns, and the brain actually stimulates us for successfully detecting patterns… hence their inflated value. In short, patterns are habit-forming.

But when we hear a word or name which we just learned the previous day, it often feels like more than a mere coincidence. This is because Baader-Meinhof is amplified by the recency effect, a cognitive bias that inflates the importance of recent stimuli or observations. This increases the chances of being more aware of the subject when we encounter it again in the near future. How the phenomenon came to be known as “Baader-Meinhof” is uncertain.

It seems likely that some individual learned of the existence of the historic German urban guerrilla group which went by that name, and then heard the name again soon afterwards. This plucky wordsmith may then have named the phenomenon after the very subject which triggered it. But it is certainly a mouthful; a shorter name might have more hope of penetrating the lexicon. However it came to be known by such a name, it is clear that Baader-Meinhof is yet another charming fantasy whose magic is diluted by stick-in-the-mud science and its sinister cohort: facts.

But if you’ve never heard of the phenomenon before, be sure to watch for it in the next few days… brain stimulation is nice."

เมื่อคืนเดินผ่านตู้โชว์ร้านนึงที่เค้าโชว์ภาพของมาริลีน มอนโร ในกระจก คิดดูว่าเิดินผ่านไปแล้วยังต้องเดินย้อนกลับมาดูอีก แล้วก็ต้องมนต์ ยืนดูอยู่นานนนนมาก บอกไม่ถูกว่าทำไม

พอกลับมาค้นก็เจอโพสต์ของคุณ hayana วันก่อนเรื่อง "100 บุคคลที่เป็นไอค่อนตลอดกาล"    ดูตอนแรกนึกว่ารูปเดียวกัน แต่ทำไมรู้สึกไม่เหมือนกัน พอค้นในเน็ทก็พบว่า ภาพนี้มีหลายเวอร์ชั่น จาก "Ballerina Series" ถ่ายโดย Milton H. Greene

ภาพที่เห็นกันอยู่บ่อยๆ เป็นภาพที่มาริลีนยิ้มอย่างสนุกสนาน แต่กลับเป็นเรื่องราวในใบหน้า แววตาและท่าทางของภาพนี้ต่างหากที่ตราตรึงใจและทำให้อยากค้นหาซะเหลือเกิน
