2011 World Series - First Game 7 in 9 Years

Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinal -- Drama continues after miraculous game last night - Game 6 in St. Louis.

Whether or not you're are a baseball fan, you've got to love the drama and the display of miraculous human ability to PERSEVERE and to NEVER GIVE UP even when all the odds are against you and possibility of victory is bleak... The unfolded drama epitomized Yogi Berra's famous quote: "It ain't over till it's over!!!."

Last night, in the bottom of the 9th inning, Rangers were leading 7-5 and the long-awaited World Series Championship was just 1 strike away!!!! ...

Here's my favorite sports photographer Brad Mangin's impression of the moment  (http://manginphotography.net/2011/10/2011-world-series-game-6):

"By the time we got to the bottom of the 9th inning with the Rangers up 7-5 I really thought the Rangers would be celebrating their first World Series championship on the field within moments. Two out. David Freese the batter. Neftali Feliz on the mound. TWO STRIKES! I was focusing my camera on Rangers catcher Mike Napoli [who played on despite a nasty-looking ankle twist]
. I figured he would be the MVP and I wanted to get him jumping in the air and celebrating..."

Then this local kid David Freese hit a deep drive to the right field -- and hampered the Rangers' dream and enabled the Cardinals to stay alive.  The game went to extra innings -- and I could not believe my eyes when it was David Freese who hit a walk-off home run in the 11th inning.

THIS GOT TO BE ONE OF THE BIGGEST COMEBACK OF WORLD SERIES HISTORY.  WELL, WHAT CAN I SAY -- I JUST LOVE STORIES OF UNDERDOGS AND UNLIKELY HEROES.

As the camera panned around the stadium, the drama also unfolded in the the losers as well -- especially that played in the face of Nolan Ryan's (one of the greatest pitchers of all times and now Rangers owner).

This is also another great story of this year's game.  Josh Hamilton made a comeback after a long battle with addiction.  He hit his first post-season home run last night.

Another great story of the game is Nelson Cruz -- with his performance and great play.

On October 27, 2011, Cruz hit a solo home run to put the Texas Rangers up 6 to 4 against the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 6 of the 2011 World Series.  The home run allowed Cruz to tie the record for most postseason home runs in a season at 8; he shares the achievement with Carlos Beltran and Barry Bonds.

Whatever the outcome of Game 7 -- It will be another page in the history of baseball.

  2. It's on right now on Fox -- If you'd like to just dip your toes into baseball -- this is the game to watch kha.

No matter what the outcome is, history is in the making :)).

Going into this World Series (especially with my SF Giants out of the play-off), people think this series would be boring as there were hardly any "hook" or angle to play off of -- but boy! how wrong we are -- and this element of surprise and anticipation is what make baseball so special...

Ha ha... you can tell I'm crazy :).

  3. No, I do not think you are crazy krub. You just like the game a lot, hee hee.

  5. I just think that "sportsmanship" is one of the best qualities of human beings -- and in the days and age of "winning is everything" and "egoism" being the mandate of the day, it just feels so good to be reminded of the fact that "WE" human being as a race is also capable of achieving positive things.:)...

I know, I'm always sappy... hee hee.

  13. Ha ha ha.... I know... There was a GREAT catch just now...

I was thinking that besides golf, baseball's got to be the only other sport (well I don't know anything about cricket) that I know of -- that you as a player can feel good or bad about yourself in a hurry :)).

  17. The reason why I said that is because tennis, to me, is a continuous sports -- Except for serving, there's not as much of a silent periods that's impregnated wit possibilities ...

ฺBut then again, if and when I'm back to be crazy about tennis again, I might change my mind -- and find a way to find the drama again -- I'm sure. :)).

  21. Ha ha ... Now... we are both at high risk of becoming a serious "couch potato" -- Now that I also found Grimm in addition to The Big Bang Theory ...

I've also picked up a bad habit of watching reruns of Without A Trace (which I found boring before) on Ion --- mwahhhhhhhh... HELP!!!!

  22. I don't normally enjoy watching nor playing golf -- but one time I hit a hole-in-one at a par-3 golf course --- and boy! that felt reallyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy good... ha ha ha.

  23. Yah, I know -- I remember cheering for Drew Bree and the New Orleans Saints (again the underdog) in the SuperSuper Bowl XLIV (2009) -- That was big drama too... ha ha.

  24. I don't know... but at this moment, I feel so bad and sympathy for Ron Washington -- the Rangers Coach...
But perhaps, they'll turn around and win..

But I'm still cheering for the National League -- Cardinals.

  25. But I also want the Rangers to win their first World Series ... mwahhhhhh.

  26. That gets my vote krub.

It has been a nice talk. Good night krub.

  27. The Cardinals won!!!

The faces of the Rangers are breaking my heart that I want to cry.
They are losing 2 years back to back but this series is just soooo close...

Thanks for a great conversation too kha. Good night.

  28. The Cardinals won their 11th World Series Championship !!!! 6-2.

There are so many lessons from the game. The commentators said, NOBODY, NOBODY thoughts that Cardinals were going to win. But Tony La Russa, the Cardinals coach never let his team quit -- and that is so commendable.

But there are so much drama, so much pain, so much disappointment in the faces of the Rangers that I also want to cry for them -- They have fought fiercely and honorably throughout the season and post season -- and for me my hat's off to them as well.

Thank you Texas Rangers for a great season -- despite the defeat.

  29. Sorry to hear the outcome that is not favorable krub.

A lot to be said for Cardinals for having the great record. The Rangers has done very against such team.

  31. Baseball is A popular sport in your area!

Russian juveniles play Canadian youth in Chilliwack,,next week. Tickets sold quickly Hockey rules this area of Canada

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yeap -- Canadian rule in hockey indeed :)). We have the San Jose Sharks here who are quite good -- They even made the playoffs to the final of Stanley cup but lost to the Vancouver Canucks. They got tons of Canadians on the roster.. :))

I have yet to see hockey :)... but the sport seems sooooo violent ... ha ha ha.

  34. I guess in a way, it's favorable because the National League won (as the NY Yankees of American League have been dominant for so long), but I can't help but feeling the pain of the Rangers who made the final playoff back-to-back -- and that is not easy at all -- yet lost in this fashion.

But that is very typical for baseball -- and that is why it is such an exciting game to watch. There is no sure thing -- just like life ha ha.

By the way, I'd say this WS is high up on the list with 1969 upset by the NY "Miracle" Mets against the Baltimore Orioles. And funny enough, Nolan Ryan (then with the Mets) was also part of the equation.
