Just came across his name and looked him up on wikipedia. Learned that he's an Italian-American contemporary artist who's influenced by thinkers as diverse as Gregory Bateson, William Blake, Allen Ginsberg, and J Krishnamurt. I like this writeup about him but pair it with my Warhol-esqe rendition of my coffee cup here (Aside - I'm fascinated by coffee cups and one of these days I'd make a collection of it.).
Anyway, so here it goes...
" ...the art of Francesco Clemente is inclusive and nomadic, crossing many borders, intellectual and geographical... he has adopted for his paintings a vast variety of supports and mediums, exploring, discarding, and returning to oil paint, watercolor, pastel, and printmaking. His work develops in a non linear mode, expanding and contracting in a fragmentary way, not defined by a style, but rather by his recording of the fluctuations of the self, as he experiences it. The goal is to embrace an expanded consciousness, and to witness, playfully and ironically, the survival of the ecstatic experience in a materialistic society..."

His work is over my head krub. However, I like the not heavy painting i.e. sort of light pastel or water color style that he uses. Although the works are not heavy in term of materials but the contents are quite strong.

ReplyDeleteI just saw his face in the Richard Avedon's video that we discussed yesterday and at first confused him with the baseball legend, Roberto Clemente ... hee hee.

ReplyDeleteSame impression but different cups ... Everytime I see a coffee cup, I just can resist photographing it. :).
I know some photogs who do like taking photos of doors or windows krub. I am sort of that kind but only had a chance to do only few.
