Parting

Photobucket

As I see your wispy pink petals revealing their delicate beauty in soft murmuring rain, I am saddened by the impending parting… This will be the last time that I gaze longingly into your shady embrace… your reassuring presence that have somehow influenced my moods… the unspoken bonds that we formed throughout these years… I will miss you so.. If “parting is such sweet sorrow,, then “I shall say good night till it be morrow.”

The Old Apple Tree, a visual essay inspired by Urgelt's reading of the poem The Old Apple-Tree by Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872-1906).

Just another personal mental note. I have seen this iconic photo of America's Great Depression for such a long time but the identity of the photographer was never registered in my mind until my recent visit to SFMOMA. I just found out that she became famous here in the San Francisco Bay Area and used to live in Berkeley. In 1945, Lange was invited by Ansel Adams to accept a position as faculty at the first fine art photography department at the California School of Fine Arts (CSFA).

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver announced on May 28, 2008 that Lange will be inducted into the California Hall of Fame, located at The California Museum for History, Women and the Arts. The induction ceremony took place on December 15 and her son accepted the honor in her place.
