New York Meseum of Modern Art (MOMA)

Never thought I would appreciate modern art, but I found myself loving them more and more... It's like looking through a revolving mirror that shows gradual change of societies' mood and tone.  The posts after this are some of my favorites.

Note: Van Gough's The Olive Trees

  1. Modern and comtemporary arts give us more rooms to see abstract aspects of things which arts of older schools did not have much to offer.

  2. When we were in college and I studied literature... the lessons kind of stopped at around 18th-19th centuries. And during my young days at CMU, with the beautiful surroundings and poetry, I couldn't help but being hopelessly Romantic. Politics and Socio-Psychology weren't very attractive then (Just had to wing it to graduate). So for over two decades, I had travelled the world partly seeking to see for my own eyes the real artifacts and pieces from the glorious Old World, which I experienced vicariously through stories told by our professors and library books -- Impressionism in particular. The other part of me was exploring the new and adventurous frontier of the New World...(mostly tribal/native art and literature as well as the breathtaking landscapes of the outdoor -- that I prefer to call the living art).

Now as I grew older, wiser, more disillusioned and less impressionable -- I think I have embarked on what we may equate to the "Realism" era... (Aside: in other words, I'm not as easily fooled by the media, and started to believe that conspiracy theory may be real -- just kidding :-)). So, the once thought-of as "dysfunctional and strange" shapes and form" of cubisms and abstracts or the once dubbed tacky pop art -- started to lend me an opportunity to reflect on MY world through different lens. Quite refreshing indeed!!!

  3. Totally agreed with you. Surprise to myself when I noticed that I started to enjoy Picasso once boring paintings. I also found that the paintings from our beloved King are just as great - genious he is. Anyway, the surrealism is still a long way to go though.

  4. True! I remember that portrait that our King did of the Queen and recently thought it was brilliant. I may have it somewhere on my computer. Will dig it up and post it. About surrealism, I found one 3D work of Salvador Dali at the MOMA (the rest were on loan till June) and thought it so brilliant and not too guelsome... the rest of surrealism movement is sometimes harder to stomach. I do agree.

BTW, would love to see your face on my contact. Will send you a pix and you can upload it na ja. Thanks for stopping by.
