เมื่อคืนงัดเอาหนังเรื่อง Manhattan (1979) ของ Woody Allen มาดูอีกครั้ง ก็ยังตลก ก็ยังสวยทรงเสน่ห์ ยังเป็นนิยามของคำว่า "Woody Allen" อยู่อย่างไม่เสื่อมคลาย ... พอมาดูตอนนี้เห็นว่า ชีวิตของ Allen ดำเนินไปเหมือนกับเรื่องนี้น่าเสียดายที่ทางเลือกของเขาในชีวิตส่วนตัวยุคหลัง ทำให้คนรุ่นหนึ่งที่เคยเห็นเขาเป็นเสมือนพระเจ้า เป็นคำตอบของยุคสมัย หมดศรัทธาในตัวเขาไปอย่างสิ้นเชิง แต่ถึงยังไง Manhattan ก็ยังเป็นหนังที่สุดยอดมากๆเรื่องหนึ่ง
I just watched Manhattan again last night after all these years. For me, it still encapsulates Woody Allen at his finest hours. It is the reason why I fell in love with New York and Gershwin light years ago.
Watching it again now after seeing how Allen's life unfolded in the recent years is like witnessing a self-fulfilling prophecy in action. It seems, in this case, a variation of "Life imitating Art".
Although Allen had long fallen from Grace and lost his edge with his old followers, Manhattan is still one of my favorite classics.

Billy Crystal มีสไตล์ของตัวเอง but somehow has the same quality of that funny, quirky, neurotic, jewish person from New York obsession to it.
He's another one of my favorites.

ReplyDeleteWatched Manhattan many many years ago and couldn't make any sense of it; I later watched it again when I was older, and had to admire his unique outlook in things.
ReplyDeleteManhattan is one of his bests, I think, some even call it a modern masterpiece.

ReplyDeleteI think he's really brilliant in turning his sexual, racial and physical insecurities into very funny and witty story lines. Many people follow that route and became very successful -- Billy Crystal is one I can think of.
The subject of this movie is still current... If you watched the clip "the Bridge scene" I posted -- It was very funny when..
Mary asked if Allen had any children "or things like that"
then he said "Yeah, being raised by two women at the moment...
Mary said " That works... we don't need fathers... (something like that)"...
And he said (here's one of my favorite punch line) " Really? I thought people have a hard time surviving one mom" ha ha ha... It's so funny.
On other level, now that I started to notice more things about photography, Manhattan is such a feast to the eyes... I really love the mood, tone, and light and shadows in it...
Oh! another thing... I love it when he makes fun of those pseudo "high brow" people who like to discuss highly intellectual subjects at parties... It reminds me of a few people I know :) ...
